In response to the corona virus outbreak, schools and universities have been closed in parts of Italy. We also learned on Monday that the outbreak has reached Bari, the host city for the next Global Legal Skills Conference. The outbreak has the potential to cause significant travel concerns such as hotel and airport closures.

Although we can hope that the university would be open during the original dates of the GLS Conference, May 20-22, 2020, we do not know what quarantine measures will be in place at that time. Additionally, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control has issued a level 3 warning last Friday for travelers to avoid all nonessential travel to Italy. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/warning/coronavirus-italy. We also know that at least one U.S. law school has banned its faculty and students from traveling to Italy and that other schools have canceled their Italian summer programs.

Given this rapidly-developing situation, we have decided to postpone the conference until May 2021. We anticipate that the new dates of the conference will be May 19-21, 2021 (subject to confirmation by the University of Bari Department of Law). Proposals submitted for the 2020 conference will be transferred to the 2021 conference. You may, of course, update those later.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues, students, and friends in Italy and elsewhere who are dealing with the virus and its fallout.
