About Dave Winfield
Dave Winfield played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball for six teams: the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians. He was a 12-time MLB All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove Award winner, recording 3,110 hits, 465 home runs and 1,833 RBIs during his career.
Winfield is the only athlete ever drafted by four professional sports leagues: MLB’s San Diego Padres, the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, the ABA’s Utah Stars and the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. He went directly from the University of Minnesota to the major leagues without playing in the minor leagues. His storied career culminated in his election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.
In 1977, Winfield founded the David M. Winfield Foundation, becoming one of the first active professional athletes to establish a major charitable organization. Through his foundation, he has made a positive impact on young people in each city where he played. He is also a published author whose latest book is Touching All the Bases.
As part of the Selig Speaker Series, Winfield will share personal insights from his book and reflect on the challenges he faced and overcame on and off the field during his journey from St. Paul, Minnesota, to superstardom.
