Alejandro Escobar practices in public international law and arbitration. He advises businesses and states in disputes arising out of investment protection treaties and in arbitrations arising out of project agreements. He has handled numerous claims of expropriation and abusive regulation in various industries, including power, oil & gas, telecommunications, public concessions and procurement, and advises on other international law issues, including boundary disputes, relevant to international business.
Alejandro has practiced in London since 2002. He was previously Senior Counsel at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), where he handled numerous investment treaty matters, including some of the first investment claims under NAFTA, and a high profile Law of the Sea dispute. From London, Alejandro has advised clients world-wide in disputes under the ICSID Convention, the ICSID Additional Facility Rules, the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, the ICC Arbitration Rules, the ICC Rules on Dispute Boards, the SCC rules, the ICDR arbitration rules, and many others. He also regularly sits as an arbitrator.
