Scott L. Jones is general counsel and vice president of Legal for Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Ariz. Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN), with 2013 sales of $24 billion and 63,000 employees worldwide, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security and civil markets throughout the world. Raytheon is headquartered in Waltham, Mass.

Jones joined Raytheon Missile Systems in 2008 following an assignment as General Counsel and Secretary for Raytheon Australia (2008-2009). Prior to that position, Jones served as Senior Counsel of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (2004-2008), where he was responsible for the legal affairs of Strategic Systems and Integrated Airborne Systems Product Lines and the Information Technology, Mission Assurance and Contracts functional areas.

Before joining Raytheon, Jones was Senior Attorney and Secretary (acting) for Cubic Corporation, San Diego, California (2000 -2004). From 1991 to 2000, Jones practiced law as an associate and subsequently as a litigation partner at Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, Los Angeles. And from 1987 to 1991, Jones was an associate in the government regulation section and government contracts practice group at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Washington, D.C.

Jones began his career as a U.S. naval officer, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander prior to attending law school. As a naval officer, he served as officer in charge of construction and contracting in Keflavik, Iceland, and on the staff of the Naval Data Automation Command. Jones completed his naval career with service as Deputy Special Programs Officer in the White House Military Office during the Reagan Administration.

Jones holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho and a master’s degree from Columbia University. He earned his Juris Doctor from Catholic University. He is a member of the California, District of Columbia and Virginia bar associations, and a recognized foreign legal practitioner in the Australian Capital Territory, Commonwealth of Australia.
